It's Official!

Nate has a job.
Holy cow.
Holy Freaking Cow.

6 weeks before he graduates.
He was offered a job.
It seems so surreal.
Our whole marriage,
all we've ever known is school.

We've been in the confines of
a 500 square foot apartment
supporting a family
of four
on less than $15,000 a year.

And now,
all because of one phone call,
our lives have changed!

So, where are we headed to?

Ta da!
Beaverton, Oregon.

I'm terribly excited.
I have always wanted to live
by the ocean.
I have been to Oregon a few times,
and instantly fell in love with it.

As we've looked for jobs
in the Salt Lake Valley,
there wasn't a lot to choose from.
It's highly competitive
and is even more so because
of the economy.

But, I'm so grateful
that the Lord has lead us
to Oregon.
We truly have been in the Lord's
hands the past few months.
I know we have been blessed
with a tremendous opportunity
to grow.

I am ready for what lies ahead!

The Results Are In...

I know you have all been going crazy wondering who won our little challenge... and I would like to announce with pride that I DID! BWAH AH AH! I beat Nate by one point. :) And that's only because I asked an extremely tricky question on my quiz. But, I guess he learned his lesson that he needs to thoroughly read the question.
I think this was actually a good little thing for Nate and I. The whole week we paid a lot more attention to each other. There was actually a bonus section on our quiz that was based completely on observations. For instance, what did Nate wear to church on Sunday? (A cream shirt with his black and gold tie.) What color did I paint my toes this week? (Orange.) So we could get extra credit on things that we just observed. (I kicked Nate's butt in this section...)
It was a lot of fun and it wasn't meant to be hurtful or spiteful. I highly suggest you try it sometime. It adds just a little bit of spice to things. :)

P.S. I now just need to decide on what my prize is going to be.....

Recharged

  Master, the tempest is raging!
The billows are tossing high!
The sky is o'er shadowed with blackness.
No shelter or help is nigh.
Carest thou not that we perish?
How canst thou lie asleep?
When each moment so madly is threat'ning
A grave in the angry deep?

The winds and the wave shall obey thy will:
Peace, be still.
Whether the wrath of the storm tossed sea,
Or demons or men or whatever it be,
No waters can swallow the ship where lies
The Master of ocean and earth and skies.
They all shall sweetly obey thy will:
Peace, be still.
Peace, be still.
They all shall sweetly obey thy will:
Peace, peace, be still.

In a nutshell.... that's how I've been feeling.
Just a little background.... I feel like these past few months have just been stormy. I have been completely on edge and I have felt like I have been clinging on to any shred of sanity I have left. I have just had so much on my mind that I feel like I'm going crazy. I have had no peace or comfort in the situation Nate and I are facing. My faith (let's clear that up... my faith in the gospel and knowing that it's true hasn't wavered... my faith in knowing that things will work out has been teetering.) I'm 110% positive it's my fault because I haven't asked for peace of comfort... but then I have been humbled greatly and the past couple of weeks I have really tried to have the Spirit in my life daily.
On Friday, Nate and I were able to go to the temple. I was so grateful to go and ponder about the direction my life needs to take. While I didn't get any one specific answer to the questions I have, I was able to feel absolute peace.
Then today I had the opportunity to play a musical number for the Sacrament meeting up at Primary Children's Medical Center. Over the past 5 years, I have played several numbers up there, but today I was just overwhelmed by the Spirit. Since I spent some time up there with my brother awhile ago, it's been amazing to be on the other end of the meeting.  Their Sacrament meeting is short. It only lasts 30 minutes or so. They have an opening song, opening prayer, the sacrament is passed and administered, then there is a musical number and a 5 minute talk. Then it's the closing song and the closing prayer. Afterwards, the men go and take the sacrament to those in the hospital who request it and who weren't able to come out of their rooms. The women go to the rooms and teach primary lessons. Then throughout the week, there are people from our stake who go up and visit those in need. The Sacrament meeting is for anyone who wants to come. Some of the patients are able to come as well as their families. Staff of PCMC are also able to attend.
The room was absolutely packed today. It was an incredible sight. There were about a dozen patients who all lined the first row. Some in wheelchairs and some were laying down in wagons. Some had so many tubes hooked up to them while others had various physical ailments. Some people come in their pajamas, some come in their jeans, and others are in scrubs. Some of them don't have their hair combed and some are without makeup. But as I looked around today, it didn't matter what their physical appearance looked like. These are people whose physical bodies are having troubles, but their spiritual bodies are charged and humble. They are seeking refuge from their storms of life and they gain strength from each other. Their testimonies are strong and they have a deep understanding of the Atonement.
I don't think there was a dry eye in the meeting today. If you ever need a spiritual recharge, I highly suggest going to one of their meetings. Their love is so pure and just touches your heart. The meeting brought a lot of comfort and assurance to me. Assurance that I haven't been forgotten. My Father in heaven is mindful of me. He loves me and wants me to be happy. He really is in control.
So, needless to say, I have been recharged and ready to face the storms that are billowing around me.

PAY ATTENTION!!!!

OK, so this is Nathan writing and as many of you know I only post the pressing issues; you know, the ones that matter most. (Sarcasm, for those of you who really don't know me) Claudia and I were sitting at dinner tonight and we were discussing our day. She was telling me about a guy she works with and how all he could talk about today was his performance at church ball earlier that morning. I asked the question, "Did he win?" She responded, "I don't know, I wasn't paying attention." To which I stated, "Oh, so it's kinda like when I tell you about sports? You tune me out?" She flipped the statement back on me and said that I never paid attention to her.
So, there is a little background on our experiment. What experiment you ask? (Or maybe you didn't) Well, at the end of next week, we are going to test each other on the conversations we have with one another. The test will consist of 20 multiple choice/fill-in-the-blank type questions and 1 short answer question. (Hey, it will be the beginning of my spring break and I don't want to lose my testing skills:) So, wish me luck, or don't and you'll be cursed for life, and feel free to take the anonymous survey on the side of the blog.
Also,we haven't decided on a reward for the winner so any useful suggestions would be appreciated.
